Voice of Protest against Man in Difficult Daughters
Abstract
Indian English novelists, since its inception, are exploring new and innovative themes in
literature, especially the women novelists like Nayantara Sehgal, Shobha De, R. P. Jhabvala,
Arundhati Roy and Manju Kapur adhered to the exploration of ‘inner self’ and its ‘needs’ which
consequently resulted in protest against their male counterparts. These women novelists
successfully, adopting British techniques of Jane Austin, Bronte Sisters or George Eliot in
characterization and plot-construction nativized the British style and transcreated Indian saga
of protest into their well-knit tales. In this way they became more sublime, qualitative and
forceful than male fictionists of India.
